GYNECOLOGIC CANCER FOUNDATION NAMED ONE OF "AMERICA'S BEST 100 CHARITIES"
Chicago-Based Foundation Honored by Worth Magazine
CHICAGO, December 5, 2001 -
Worth magazine named Chicago-based Gynecologic Cancer Foundation (GCF) as one of "America’s 100 Best Charities" in its December 2001 issue.
Established in 1991 as a not-for-profit charitable organization by the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists (SGO), GCF works to heighten public awareness about gynecologic cancer prevention, early diagnosis and proper treatment, as well as support research and training related to gynecologic cancers. GCF advances this mission by increasing public and private funds that aid in the development and implementation of awareness and prevention programs.
GCF collaborates with the numerous advocate, survivor, nursing and healthcare organizations committed to quality cancer care for women. Various programs include a public awareness campaign promoting Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month (GCAM) during September; produces educational materials for medical professionals and the public; and supports fellowships and research grants to encourage research in the field of gynecologic oncology.
"We feel honored to be listed among such notable and prestigious organizations as one of Worth's 100 Best American Charities," said Gynecologic Cancer Foundation Chair Wesley C. Fowler Jr., M.D. "We are grateful for the broad exposure the List will garner to help further expand our capabilities and raise awareness of gynecologic cancers to essentially save lives."
With more than 819,000 charities in America today, Worth magazine took the guess work out of giving by carefully researching organizations to develop the coveted “Top 100” List. The List includes a variety of organizations for the environment, education, health, human services, and relief and development. Of the 26 health organizations listed, GCF was one of only two organizations solely focused on women’s health.
The December 2001 issue hits newsstands on December 11.
